The Charlotte Harbor Event and Conference Center is a 45,230 sf facility built for the purpose of providing the citizens of Charlotte County a state of the art convention and event center to replace the structure that was destroyed by Hurricane Charley. The project site is “reclaimed” land on the Peace River. Existing FEMA flood maps were created before the site was filled. The design/build team worked with FEMA to get the velocity zone changed through a Letter of Map Revision. This allowed the site to be stabilized for the building loads through vibro-replacement techniques rather than much more expensive piles which would have been required under the old flood designation.

Building amenities include a 19,857 sf multipurpose hall, with a seating capacity of 2,100 complete with theatrical stage rigging and lighting, meeting and dressing rooms, and office areas for on site staff. Banquet set-up can seat 900 people. A full service commercial kitchen sized to serve the 900 person capacity was constructed as part of the facilities support areas. The harbor-walk along the Peace River boundary includes brick pavers, gazebos and an area for riverfront events. The building construction consists of structural steel, concrete tilt walls and a fibertight barrel tile metal roof system. Mechanical systems include a chilled water plant for air conditioning and roll-up generator hookup for emergency power. The building is built to withstand 150 mph wind speeds.
