Under Construction
Campus Auditorium Renovation
Location: Avon Park, Florida
Owner: South Florida Community College
Architect: Schwab, Twitty & Hanser
Contract Type: CM @ Risk
Contract Amount: $10,376,437
Completion Date: February 2010

The complete renovation of the Auditorium includes numerous challenges which extend far beyond the issues normally associated with this type of renovation. The existing Performing Arts Hall is situated between two separate, and totally functional university facilities which share common area with the Performing Arts facility. Separation of construction activities from on-going college activities will be critical. There is very limited staging areas and many activities including crane work, heavy demolition and deliveries will have to be done at night. The interior of the existing Hall will be totally demolished and new interior finishes and seating, a new balcony area, and new viewing boxes will be added to both side wall areas. Backstage, the fly loft area will be extended 20 feet vertically and the roof in this area will be totally replaced. Extensive systems upgrades will be made to the existing mechanical, electrical, and theater control systems. The renovation work will include heavy structural concrete work performed in interior spaces that will require specialized material installations and construction techniques.

Mathews has been involved in intensive constructability and value added services efforts with the design team, STH, and the College to maximize the program under a very restricted budget.
